The Australian aboriginal history along with the country's rare Flora and fauna makes it one of the unique and attractive countries to visit. Aboriginal Art discover in caves and on rocks dates back more than 30,000 years making it one of the oldest art forms in the world. In the Northern Province, aboriginal art comprises sculpture, bark and rock paintings, and baskets and beadwork.
In northern Australia there are many caves, cliffs and sandstone rock-shelters, it is popularly recognized that these were used for camping, their floors are superimposed with charcoal and ash from camp fires, the relics of food such as shells and animal bones, stone tools and, very often, pieces of ochre have been discover. Ochre comes from soft categories of iron oxide minerals and from rocks comprising ferric oxide, and is still used in Aboriginal Art.
A lot of different methods are used to date Aboriginal art including carbon dating, optically stimulated luminescence and accelerator mass spectrometry. These test were done on a lot of the undisturbed cave discovered as well as many of the implements which in themselves sometimes had paintings on them. These confirmed one of the earliest proofs of man making art.
Because Radiocarbon dating was in the past only good for 40000 years many of the newer techniques were used to date past the 40000 mark. Another great thing with the new method is not only accuracy but also the amount of article needed to date, the tested item.
Pieces of Ocre have been associated with nearly all discovered sites and most have been dated at over 10000 years. The reason we dwell on the heritage of Aboriginal art is simply to prove that it can be traced back to the Stone Age. While aboriginal art now uses a lot of the latest artistic materials, many of the old favorites are still in use, so ochre, bark and wood is still popular.
Even though Aboriginal art has now started to move from caves and rocks to more main stream mediums it is still proving to be a great investment. Over the years many of the earlier artist people who started the revolution have seen their art appreciate into the hundreds of thousands.
There are so many ways to celebrate art and decorate walls and rooms that , aboriginal art offers something that is original with nearly every one been hand painted on location. Because of this it is much easier to get a painting from a new painter while they are unknown. Image getting an early Albert Namatjira you couldn't not smile.
Even if you spread your purchases over a couple of artist and spread your luck you could still have a chance of making a $300 dollar painting into a $50000 dollar investment as has happened wit a couple of artist and investors. I suppose you could say it's all about luck but I think its quality choose paintings you like and you cant go wrong.
